Yancoal has interests in several sites across Australia where activities include exploration, assessment and monitoring.
The sites are located in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
EXPLORATION, ASSESSMENT and MONITORING
Non-operational sites represent areas in which we only conduct exploration, assessment and monitoring activities, rather than mining. Exploration, assessment and monitoring activities include drilling programs, geophysical surveys and monitoring of rehabilitated land. These activities are typically short-lived programs, which aim to acquire information.
An example of a non-operational site is the Tasman coal mine and Tasman Extension Project located in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. The Tasman mine was an underground bord and pillar operation that ceased mining in 2013. The site has been rehabilitated, and both the Environmental Protection Licence (EPL) and the Development Consent have been surrendered. The Tasman Extension Project was approved by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in 2013 and has been substantially commenced regarding the Consent. No mining related activities have occurred onsite.
Stakeholders and community members are notified and/or informed about these activities, which are regulated and conducted in accordance with the relevant title conditions and legislation.
