About Yarrabee Coal

Yarrabee mine, which was acquired by Yancoal in 2009, is a truck and shovel operation employing almost 500 full-time workers.  The operation manages and maintains an extensive environmental monitoring program covering noise, air quality, blasting and surface and groundwater.

Yarrabee Continuation Project

Yancoal is proposing to extend mining operations at Yarrabee, which would enable the continuation of mining in an efficient manner and would leave behind an improved rehabilitated landform at mine closure to support a sustainable combination of agriculture and native vegetation.

This continuation project proposes to expand the mine within its existing mining leases. Extending Yarrabee would sustain the current workforce and ensure continued social and economic benefits to the region for several decades.

Yarrabee is currently preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. The draft Terms of Reference (TOR) for the EIS are currently on public notification and can be viewed here https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/management/environmental/eis-process/projects/current-projects/yarrabee-coal-mine-continuation-project. The TORs will set out what needs to be assessed in the EIS. It will take Yarrabee most of 2026 to prepare the EIS and address the TORs.

We will continue to keep the surrounding community informed as the Project progresses.

Please contact us at Yarrabee.Environment@yancoal.com.au if you have any questions about the Project.
